UT swimmer makes history breaking world record in 50m freestyle
He broke the world record twice on Saturday in the 50m freestyle during the Short Course World Championships in Budapest.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A swimmer with the University of Tennessee made history on Saturday when he broke the world record twice in the 50m freestyle during the Short Course World Championships in Budapest.
Jordan Crooks broke the record by swimming a 20.08 during the preliminary round.
Crooks broke the record of 20.16, which was previously set in 2020 by Caeleb Dressel.

Later on Saturday, he shattered his own record with a 19.90, becoming the first person ever to go sub-20 seconds in the event.

The senior from George Town, Cayman Islands has had a decorated career so far, including winning a national championship in 2023, the first Vol to do in over 40 years.
