Tennessee defensive back to enter Peach Bowl Hall of Fame

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A former Tennessee All-American will join two others in being inducted into the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Hall of Fame.

Eric Berry will bring the total number of players in the Peach Bowl Hall of Fame to 67.

Berry was a two-time unanimous All-American defensive back for the University of Tennessee from 2007 to 2009. Also a recipient of the Jim Thorpe Award in 2009, he was twice declared the nation’s top defensive back with the Jack Tatum Award from the Touchdown Club of Columbus.

The VFL was also named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2008 after leading the conference with seven interceptions.

Locally, Berry holds Tennessee’s record for career yards per interception (35.3) and helped lead the Vols to two bowl berths, including the Peach Bowl in 2009. The 2009 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl also being Berry’s last game as a Volunteer.

What followed was a stint as part of the Kansas City Chiefs, ending his NFL career with 440 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, 14 interceptions, three forced fumbles, 50 pass deflections and five defensive touchdowns.

Berry will join former Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher, and former Peach Bowl, Inc. chairman Neill Cameron Jr. in the Hall of Fame.
