Police identify pedestrian hit, killed on I-40 near Nashville airport

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Metro Nashville Police Department identified the pedestrian who was hit and killed on Interstate 40 East on Tuesday morning.
According to police, 22-year-old Austin S. David, of Mt. Juliet, was killed after he was struck between the Donelson Pike and Stewarts Ferry Pike exits.
David was reportedly walking along the right side of the interstate near lane four when he was first struck, before being run over by other vehicles in lane three.
Police said it is unknown when the collision occurred but that it could have happened as early as 2 a.m. He was later found by officers at 11:15 a.m.
Police said there were no witnesses or vehicles that remained on the scene.
Interstate 40 East between Donelson Pike and Stewarts Ferry Pike near the airport remained closed for several hours. The interstate reopened around 4 p.m.
“Anyone with information about this fatal crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463,” police said.
