‘Devastated’: Nashville music community mourns death of beloved DJ
The 31-year-old had worked with several high-profile artists such as Bun B, DMX and Ice Cube.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Many across Nashville are mourning the loss of a beloved DJ and former Tennessee State University football player. Deandre Haynes died earlier this month.
Haynes was best known by his stage name, DJ Svnny D, he hosted various gigs throughout the region.
During that time, Haynes connected with several high-profile artists such as Bun B, DMX and Ice Cube.
“He was a person of overcoming spirit and I just couldn’t love that child all the more,” Haynes’ father John Edwards said.
Before making a name for himself in the music industry, he played football and throughout his career suffered two major leg injuries.
Earlier this month, the 31-year-old was found dead by a roommate, according to family. They believe he died of natural causes, leaving a void for them to overcome.
“The family is devastated, it was just something we were not prepared for,” Edwards said. We know that God does not make any mistakes, even though we’re hurting right now.”
Earlier this week dozens of friends, family and fans filled the stadium at TSU and paid tribute to Haynes.
Many mentioned his charismatic personality and the love that he showed toward others.
As the city is left hurting after the death of the California native, many are working to ensure his legacy is never forgotten.
“Deandre showed us that if you want something, you go for it, whatever dream you have, go for it,” Edwards said. “You never know what you can achieve, if you never try.”
An autopsy has reportedly been ordered to determine the official cause of death.
Meanwhile, loved ones have set up a GoFundMe to assist with expenses.
