When will the Midstate see the first freeze of the season?
Freezing temperatures are just a few weeks away for many areas of the Midstate.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Temperatures are dropping into the 40s and 50s this week, signaling that fall is just around the corner, but how long will it be until we have to start taking precautions against freezing temperatures?
Typically, Middle Tennessee doesn’t start seeing temperatures falling to 32º or below until late October to early November. In Nashville, the average first freeze isn’t until November 1.
However, we have seen a freeze earlier than that. The earliest first freeze of the season on record was October 2, 1984. The latest first freeze of the season ever recorded was November 27, 2009.
While it typically happens in early November in Nashville, it can happen earlier in other areas of the Midstate. For example, in Clarksville, the first freeze is usually around October 25, and in Crossville, it’s around October 20.
