NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - It’s been getting darker earlier for months now, but we’re finally about to gain some daylight.... very slowly.

We’ve been experiencing the earliest sunsets of the year for 13 consecutive days now with a sunset time of 4:32 p.m. During this stretch, we’ve been losing seconds of daylight because sunrises continue to happen later each morning.

Daylength will continue getting shorter until the Winter Solstice on Dec. 21.

When Winter begins on December 21, as the Winter Solstice occurs, we will start gaining seconds of daylight back as soon as the next day. The change in daylight is so small, you won’t notice much of a change for a few months.

So when do noticeable changes in daylight begin? The simple answer is in Spring. Daylight saving time will begin on March 9, and then the Spring equinox occurs on March 20.

In the Spring, with longer daylight hours, and a different sun angle, temperature will begin rising on average again.
