Elvis fans swarm Graceland for 90th birthday celebration
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Fans of Elvis Presley gathered on the front lawn of Graceland on Wednesday to sing Happy Birthday to the King on his 90th birthday.
The morning’s ceremony included a proclamation by Memphis City Council and Mayors Lee Harris and Paul Young, declaring January 8 as Elvis Presley Day.
There was even a gold cake to celebrate the occasion.
Memphis City Councilwoman Pearl Eva Walker said it was an honor to be a part of such a historic moment.
“There are a lot of exciting things going on and as a representative I am called upon on occasions like this and other things like this that are unique to this area, and I am just so happy to be a part of this. And I do have my dancing shoes on,” she said.
