Officers mourn K-9 hit and killed by car while stretching his legs

STREETSBORO, Ohio (Gray News) – Officers with the Streetsboro Police Department are mourning the sudden loss of K-9 Kaya.

The beloved K-9 was let out of the cruiser just after 5:30 Tuesday evening in a field near the police department to stretch his legs.

According to the police department, Kaya got too close to the road and was hit by a passing car.

Officer Hall took the K-9 to the closest vet and then directly to an emergency center, but Kaya’s injuries were too severe to overcome.

She died a short time later.

Kaya was just three days away from his 9th birthday.

The police department said the field is an area Kaya had routinely played in over the past eight years.

“We will likely never know why Kaya redirected towards SR 303, he had never done it before,” the department said in a statement.
