Rick Barnes earns Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame nomination for second straight year
Tennessee Head Coach looks to become first Volunteer Men’s Basketball Coach inducted into Hall of Fame
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - For the second time in as many years, Tennessee Head Basketball Coach Rick Barnes has been named a nominee for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Barnes is one of 24 men’s coaches nominated. Others include NBA Champion Doc Rivers, National Champion Head Coach Billy Donovan, Miami Head Coach Jim Larranaga, and Gonzaga Head Coach Mark Few.
Barnes was also a nominee in the class of 2024 but was not named a finalist.
He would be the first Tennessee Men’s Basketball Coach inducted into the hall and would join Bernard King as the only individuals associated with the program to be inducted.
Lady Vol legend Chamique Holdsclaw is a nominee. Holdsclaw joins Sue Bird, Maya Moore, and Sylvia Fowles, among others as women’s players to be nominated.
