SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. (WSMV) - A Hendersonville Police sergeant was arrested Monday for speeding, driving under the influence, assaulting a first responder, and resisting arrest, according to the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO).

The SCSO said it was around 1:36 a.m. when one of their deputies initiated a traffic stop on a Black Honda Accord. The car was traveling 104 mph in a 65 mph zone on Highway 386 near Exit 2 in Hendersonville and the driver failed to comply with the traffic stop.

The driver continued to drive at a high rate of speed toward Exit 6, New Shackle Island Road where he exited Highway 386 and came to a stop near the traffic light at the end of the off-ramp.

The SCSO said that when the deputy approached the car, he identified the driver as Steven Wilson, an officer with the Hendersonville Police Department.

According to the arrest report, the deputy stated that Wilson had “bloodshot-watery” eyes and could smell alcohol coming from inside the car.

The deputy said that after he had asked Wilson to get out of the car, Wilson had asked the deputy to turn off his body cam. When the deputy refused, Wilson allegedly grabbed at the body cam repeatedly. The deputy said Wilson even grabbed his left wrist.

The arrest report states that the deputy’s body camera footage captured Wilson grabbing his car keys off the hood of the deputy’s patrol vehicle and starting to walk back toward his car.

The deputy grabbed Wilson to stop him from leaving, but then a brief struggle ensued, officials said, and the deputy called for backup.

A second deputy arrived and both struggled to get Wilson under control, the arrest report states.

A third deputy and a Hendersonville Police officer showed up at the scene to help with the arrest, the SCSO said.

The SCSO said all four were able to “take Wilson to the ground” and he was arrested. During one of the struggles, one of the deputies suffered a laceration to the left side of his hand.

During a search of Wilson’s car, deputies said they found two small, unopened bottles of Jack Daniel’s and two unopened White Claws.

Wilson was transported to the Sumner County Jail but bonded out Monday afternoon.

Hendersonville PD has temporarily decommissioned Wilson and placed him on leave until a full investigation into the incident is completed.

A court date for Wilson is scheduled for January 24.
