Vanderbilt’s quarterback, coach receive SEC awards

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Vanderbilt football is continuing to rake in postseason awards following its first bowl-eligible season since 2018.

Coach Clark Lea was honored as the SEC Coach of the Year while quarterback Diego Pavia was named the SEC Newcomer of the Year.

“It is the first time since Warren Norman was selected SEC Freshman of the Year in 2009 that Vanderbilt has collected an SEC individual postseason award from the league’s coaches,” Vanderbilt Athletics said.

Pavia is the first-ever recipient of the conference’s Newcomer of the Year award, which honors the top transfer student-athlete.

The Commodores are set to take on Georgia Tech on Dec. 27 in the Birmingham Bowl. With a win, Lea could lead Vandy to its first winning season since 2013.
