COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A teen in Cookeville has been charged after an investigation led deputies to the discovery of bomb components in their home, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies began investigating after a “concerned citizen” notified them of information regarding a Cookeville High School student on Jan. 6, who is currently suspected of possession of a THC vape. Though his suspension is unrelated to the investigation.

The nature of the tip was not specified, but PCSO said upon receiving it, they began investigating immediately.

A search of the teen’s home was conducted, and deputies found the juvenile to be in possession of “components that would be compatible with producing an explosive device that could cause harm to the public.”

After locating the possible bomb components, PCSO contacted the Tennessee Highway Patrol Special Operations Unit for help in handling the explosive elements.
