US experiences 4th hottest Summer on record
The average temperature for the Contiguous U.S. was 2.5° above average.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - If you thought this summer was abnormally hot, you’re right! Multiple U.S. cities had their warmest summer on record.
For Meteorological summer, the average temperature for the contiguous U.S. was 73.8°F. This is 2.5° above average, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA).
This (Meteorological) summer now ranks as the nation’s fourth-hottest summer on record. In some cities, this is even the warmest summer on record based on their average temperature for June through August.
Although no cities in the Midstate had their warmest summer on record, here are a few locations that did when averaging their daytime and nighttime temperatures:
-Phoenix, AZ: 98.9°F
-Fort Lauderdale, FL: 84.6°F
-Grand Junction, CO: 80.1°F
-Dulles, VA: 78.1°F
According to the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI), the first eight months of 2024 also ranked as the second-warmest year to date.
