PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP/Gray News) - A building in West Virginia collapsed under the weight of the snow on its roof after a severe winter storm swept through the area last weekend, according to police.

Authorities in Parkersburg said the building, an old Hyundai body shop, was located on Gove and Seventh streets.

Officials said the call for the collapse came in just before 10 p.m. Monday.

Fortunately, police reported no one was inside the building when it came down.

The collapse came after an arctic blast descended on large parts of the U.S. over the weekend, resulting in hundreds of car accidents, thousands of flight delays and cancellations, and a number of power outages.

In response, communities across the country set up warming shelters and closed schools while local governments attempt to respond to the frigid weather conditions.
