NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - This week marks four years since Ahmaud Arbery was murdered in Georgia.

The young man was jogging through his Georgia neighborhood when three white men started chasing him in their trucks, then shot and killed him.

They were all found guilty on murder and hate crime charges.

On Tuesday night, the group Black Men Run Nashville hosted a community run in his honor. They ran 2.23 miles in honor of the date that Arbery was killed.

Runners said Arbery’s murder changed the way they think about exercise and it’s important to come together to honor him.

“No matter your color, ethnicity, race, gender, just always be aware of what’s going on around you because you never know what could happen,” Victoria Vaughn, Nashville ambassador for Black Girls Run, said.

“We are here. We are people of color. We do exercise like everyone else, and don’t be afraid if we come running through your neighborhood and we’re getting our jog on,” Black Men Run Nashville co-chair Shawn Johnson said.

WSMV4′s Jordan James was one of the runners participating in Tuesday’s event.
