Charges against former Millersville mayor dropped due to questions about ‘underlying facts’
Charges of criminal simulation and tampering with government records were dropped on Wednesday morning.
MILLERSVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Citing concerns about potential errors in facts, the Sumner County district attorney dropped criminal charges against former Millersville Mayor Tim Lassiter on Wednesday morning.
In an email obtained by WSMV4 Investigates, Assistant District Attorney Thomas Dean wrote to Millersville police that “several unanswered questions remain regarding the underlying facts” and “there are new concerns that some of the information with which we were provided may be in error.”
Lassiter was charged in April with criminal simulation and tampering with government records, accused of bypassing approval by the state fire marshal to issue a permit to himself for a city building project.
Dean also wrote that due to concerns about facts, the case could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. He added that his office could refile charges against Lassiter at a later date.
The move is the latest example of scrutiny of Millersville police, following a raid a TBI raid early in September. District attorney Ray Whitley told WSMV4 Investigates the raid was focused on the current administration of the police department but past problems in the city could also be investigated as well.
