Woman critically injured after her throat was slashed by boyfriend, police say

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man was arrested in Goodlettsville this week after police say he cut his girlfriend’s throat with a box cutter, leading to critical injuries.

Darek Tidwell, 43, is charged with attempted criminal homicide. On June 24, Goodlettsville police responded to a home off Alta Loma Road in reference to a stabbing. When they arrived, they found a woman across the street suffering from a stab wound to her neck.

The victim told police Tidwell, her boyfriend, cut her throat with a box cutter. She was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with critical injuries.

Tidwell was covered in blood when police found him, according to the affidavit, and he had a backpack with a box cutter and two large kitchen knives inside.

The box cutter was covered in blood, police said. A blood trail was found leading from the crime scene to Tidwell’s arrest location, according to the affidavit.

The woman told police Tidwell attacked her after an argument. Police said he did not make any statements during his arrest.

Tidwell is being held on a $150,000 bond.
