Trevecca University mourning loss of former star basketball player
Josh Helton attended Mt. Juliet High School.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Trevecca Nazarene University is mourning the loss of one of its own.
Josh Helton, 38, died Monday, June 24, while on vacation in Miramar Beach, Florida. His cause of death has not been released.
The university and its athletic department said it was offering its “deepest condolences” to the friends and family of Helton, who played basketball at the university.
Trevecca wrote on its website that athletic director Mark Elliott, whose son Matthew played alongside Helton, said of Helton’s passing, “Our athletic community is heartbroken for the family of Josh Helton. He was such a tenacious, passionate player and his teammates loved playing with him.”
Helton attended Mt. Juliet High School.
His Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 5 p.m. in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home in Mt. Juliet.
