NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A Nashville security guard was arrested after police say he fired his weapon out of fear in a reckless manner.

Steven Nelson, 39, is charged with reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

Officers were dispatched to 7-Eleven at 2200 Brick Church Pike for a fight involving Nelson, who serves as an armed security guard.

Nelson got into an argument with a man who was causing a disturbance, police said, and that argument turned into a shoving match.

Nelson was eventually punched in the face and threatened, according to police, so he decided to fire a shot into the ground outside the business, police said.

Police said they believed this to be a reckless act, so they arrested Nelson. Officers filed charges early Friday morning.

There was a deadly shooting at this 7-Eleven location in November.
