NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The East Nashville rainbow crosswalk, commissioned by several organizations that support the LGBTQ community, appears to have been vandalized.

Photos show the crosswalk at 14th and Woodland Streets partially covered in what appears to be black paint or tar. The Metro Nashville Police Department is investigating.

The rainbow crosswalk was painted on June 29 to conclude Pride Month in Nashville. It was a project by The Metropolitan Council of Nashville and Davidson County LGBTQ Caucus, Councilmember Clay Capp, Nashville Department of Transportation, and Nashville Pride.

Surveillance video has been released of the alleged vandalism of the rainbow crosswalk that was recently installed in East Nashville at the end of Pride Mont

District 7 Council Member Emily Benedict posted in an East Nashville Facebook group that the LGBTQ Caucus is also looking into what happened to the crosswalk.

“It will be repainted,” Benedict said. “More to come as I learn more. Thank you to all who have shown solidarity in supporting this community art. The (East Nashville) area is overwhelmingly supportive as shown in this page.”

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
