‘Ban bad builders’: Nashvillians, lawmakers push for contractor accountability
State Rep. Aftyn Behn is proposing legislation that would allow municipalities the discretion to impose substantial fines on contractors with multiple violations.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Residents of the Gulch and local lawmakers are banding together to push for contractor accountability by way of new legislation.
Residents and lawmakers are holding a press conference to “ban bad builders” on Tuesday, outside of CycleBar, which is closed due to the actions of a construction company, according to the news release.
Yates Construction will be the focal point of the press conference.
“Yates has been the subject of multiple complaints this year alone, with the most recent incident involving crews working outside designated hours on a Sunday morning—despite strict Metro Codes prohibitions,” the news release states.

“Municipalities must have the tools they need to protect their residents and neighborhoods from irresponsible contractors,” said Behn. “This legislation will ensure local governments have the authority to impose fines that reflect the severity of the violations and deter future misconduct.”
The press conference is set for 5 p.m.
