Thieves break into multiple cars in East Nashville overnight
Neighbors said 11 cars on one block had shattered windows.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - People who live near Five Points in East Nashville woke up to find shattered car windows along multiple streets on Sunday morning.
Neighbors said a group of people went through the area breaking into cars overnight.
Holly Street was one of the many places with broken car windows right outside of homes. On the 1400 block alone, there were eleven cars damaged by the thieves, neighbors said.
Alissa Butler got a text from her roommate about the break-ins when she landed at BNA after returning from a trip to see family over the holidays. Her passenger side window was shattered, and the thieves went through her glovebox without taking anything.
“It made me feel peeved,” Butler said. “I want to come home and not worry about scoundrels in my car. But, at the end of the day, nobody was hurt, nothing valuable was taken from me, so I can’t complain too hard. But it’s irksome.”
Butler said it didn’t appear as if the thieves had any reason to break into some cars, but leave others untouched on her block. They left behind someone else’s teal wallet inside of her car.
Piles of shattered glass covered the road and sidewalks where the cars were parked. People used plastic bags and tarps to cover the damage left behind, and even went down the street helping their neighbors.
Butler has lived in the area for a year and said they’ve never dealt with break-ins this widespread.
“I think everyone is really annoyed by it,” Butler said. “You don’t have a driveway, you don’t have a garage, so it’s a risk.”
WSMV reached out to Metro Police to find out exactly how many cars were damaged and if they’ve been able to figure out who did this, but we have not yet received a response.
