NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A man caught on camera breaking into a South Nashville restaurant sparked a search and outcry for help against crime on Nolensville Pike.

The owner of Peachtree Grill said a burglar used a shovel to get inside.

“It’s a horrible thought,” Gretchen Soltani said.

A thought that became Soltani’s reality, as she had to watch someone break into her restaurant with something as simple as a shovel.

When asked if she was shocked by the break-in Soltani said she wasn’t. “He probably knew what he was doing,” Soltani said.

Soltani said the break-in started with her back gate.

“We noticed that the back gate had been jimmied, you could tell that it was not right,” Soltani said.

Metro Police said that around 7 p.m. Tuesday when Soltani’s restaurant was closed, someone used a shovel to wedge open the gate, smash one of the windows, and pry open Gretchen’s cash register.

She said realizing what happened only upset her more.

“I was angry because it didn’t need to happen. It was such a small amount of money,’ Soltani said.

The video showed the person walking away with what Gretchen said was just $300, but it cost her a new security system and window.

Soltani said these kinds of break-ins are happening to other businesses she knows all along Nolensville Pike, and what has her fed up is that she feels people just keep getting away with this.

“It just how it is, and you just have to suck it up,” Soltani said.

Metro Police said they’re investigating this break-in and looking for the person responsible.
