Gunshot victim wards off carjacker, pins suspect targeting second vehicle at McDonald’s, police say
The suspect shot a man after failing to steal his car before taking a small SUV from a woman moments later, police say.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A carjacking suspect is on the loose in a stolen SUV after targeting drivers at a McDonald’s in South Nashville Wednesday night, police say.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, a man approached the McDonald’s drive-thru at 2212 Nolensville Pike just after 10 p.m. and attempted to take a man’s car. The man driving refused to give up his car, so the suspect opened fire through the driver’s side window, hitting the driver in the jaw, police said.
The victim drove away after getting shot and saw the suspect attempting to take a woman’s Nissan Cube in the parking lot, according to police. The injured man decided to help, so he drove over and hit the suspect, pinning him between the two vehicles, officers said.
After the collision, the suspect pulled the woman out of the car and drove off in her Nissan, police reported. The suspect remains on the run and is believed to be seriously injured. The woman was not injured during the incident.
Officers are looking for the Nissan Cube, which is light blue in color and likely has heavy damage on the driver’s side door.
Police said the man who was shot in the jaw is expected to survive.
