Shooting victim recovering after carjacking incident at McDonald’s drive-thru
The man was shot in the face as he drove away, only to engage his assailant later when he attempted to carjack another person.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The man who was shot in the face at a McDonald’s drive-thru line is speaking about his near-death experience.
Bryan Sapp says he has never visited the McDonald’s in South Nashville before the incident. He’s a musician and was simply passing through to get something to eat after work.
He says he was ordering the food on his phone while waiting in the drive-thru line around 10 p.m., when a man approached and held a gun to his face, demanding he give up his car.
Sapp tried to speed away, then the carjacker pulled the trigger.

Sapp circled the McDonald’s a few times, blaring his horn to get help. That’s when he saw the same carjacker attempting to take a vehicle from a woman in the parking lot.
“That’s when I noticed he was harming someone else and I decided to fight back,” Sapp said. “I thought I was going to die anyway, whether I fought back or not, so I might as well die trying.”
Sapp slammed into the suspect, wedging him between his car and the woman’s, severely injuring him. The woman was able to get out of her car and run for help. She was not injured during the ordeal.
Her car was found the next day, but the Metro Nashville Police Department is still searching for the man who drove off with it after shooting Bryan.
Sapp recommends ordering your food ahead of time, or staying off your phone while waiting in drive-thru lines.
Having the ability to watch your surroundings and drive away before a stranger has the chance to approach you is important.
Sapp said all he wants out of life now is to recover so he can sing again.
