NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Driving and walking around downtown Nashville will be a little easier.

This is due to the north block of 2nd Avenue opening to traffic on Monday morning.

The opening also includes improvements to pedestrian crossings and walking areas.

The sidewalks were made wider, a pedestrian crossing was created, and more street lights were installed.

The portion of 2nd Avenue between Church Street and Union Street has been closed as the city worked to rebuild after the Christmas Day bombing in 2020.

The Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency is leading this project.

The north block of Second Avenue officially opened to traffic at 10:30 a.m.
