NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A homicide investigation led to an arrest after a teenager was found shot to death in Edgehill, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

At around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, MNPD officers responded to 1035 Edgehill Avenue regarding a report of gunshots and arrived to find the front door to the apartment ajar and 18-year-old Malachi Rybka deceased on the living room floor with multiple gunshot wounds

During the investigation, detectives said were provided information that pointed to 24-year-old Dtarious Watkins as the alleged shooter. An arrest affidavit said Watkins was driven to the homicide location by another person and was wearing black mask, shorts, and white tennis shoes at the time of the shooting.

Police are investigating a deadly shooting in the Edgehill community.

The affidavit goes on to say after the gunshots, people scattered and Watkins ran back to his waiting car and instructed the driver to, “Go, go, go!”

Once detectives established Watkins lived off Charles E. Davis Blvd. in Napier, they executed a search warrant for an unrelated vandalism charge at the location, where he was taken into custody, the affidavit states. A witness at the home told officers Watkins returned and said he was “knocking off” somebody, which they took to mean he had just killed someone, police said.

The witness also said Watkins was trying to dispose of his shorts and white shoes because they were covered in blood, according to the affidavit. Watkins had the black mask on his person, officers said. Additionally, they reported finding three 9mm handguns inside the Charles E. Davis residence.

Watkins was booked late Tuesday night and charged with criminal homicide.
