NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - It’s been about two months since Bryan Wain Sapp refused to let a carjacker take his vehicle while in a McDonald’s drive-thru. When he tried to speed off, he was shot in the face. Sapp is speaking out for the first time since Metro Nashville Police made an arrest in the case.

Sapp is making progress recovering from a bullet wound that passed through one side of his face and out the other. Describing the injuries, he said, “It entered here, went downward, basically through the middle of my tongue and blew out about two teeth here.”

When WSMV4 last spoke with Sapp shortly after the shooting, he had his mouth wired shut. Now, he is gradually getting used to talking and singing again, determined to recover so he can return to his music career.

“And so I’ve got a long ways to go with the healing as far as that’s concerned, but it’s like we said in the interview, I want to get back to making music as much as I can,” Sapp explained.

The incident happened in a South Nashville drive-thru line where Sapp was shot in the face after a man attempted to carjack him and then approached a woman. Sapp drove at the assailant to try to prevent the woman from being harmed. Metro Nashville Police have identified 23-year-old Ontario Graham as the person responsible for the shooting and subsequent theft of the woman’s Nissan Cube.

Graham is charged with attempted murder, carjacking, attempted carjacking, aggravated assault and gun crimes.

He is currently jailed on a $283,500 bond.

“To know that he’s been captured is a relief to me because I feel a little safer if I wanted to go back into Nashville and get back on the stage, that he’s not just going to run into the club and finish the job. And really to know that he’s not going to do this to somebody else because he pulled the trigger on me with no more regard than if he were squashing a bug,” Sapp said.

Sapp is committed to attending every court hearing, fighting for justice. Meanwhile, the local music community continues to rally around him. This Saturday, Tennessee Brew Works is hosting an event to raise money for his medical expenses.
