Family raises money for animal rescue in honor of cats lost in house fire
The family’s home in Murfreesboro was destroyed in a fire four months ago.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Months after losing their home and pets in a tragic house fire, one Midstate family raised hundreds of dollars for the animal rescue they adopted their cats from.
Seven-year-old Mackenzie Parsley and her two-year-old sister recently set up a lemonade stand in Bellevue. By handing out refreshments, they made $355, and the money is going to Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue, a place close to their hearts.
It’s where the Parsley family got their beloved cats, Max and Mabel.
“We unfortunately lost the cats in a house fire,” said Kate Parsley, the girls’ mother.
Four months ago, flames destroyed their home in Murfreesboro. The fire spread so quickly that the family of five narrowly escaped.
“So it was at about 10:30 at night, and we were sleeping. I guess my husband got out of bed to get something to drink and he ended up seeing smoke coming from the garage,” Kate Parsley recounted. “And so we ran out and ran across the street, and it was literally maybe 30 seconds before the house just like all blew up in flames.”
Kate says she is thankful the kids made it out, but their family feels incomplete without Max and Mabel.
“Yeah, those were like kids number four and five,” she said.
Once they are settled in their new home, the Parsleys plan on adopting more cats. In the meantime, they will continue encouraging their neighbors to support Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue.
