MCMINNVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - It’s been a week since 16-year-old Abygayle “Aby” Jones died in a car accident in Warren County.

Her family, friends and community members have come together to honor her memory and provide support to her family during this incredibly difficult time.

In McMinnville, memories of Aby Jones are alive at Gath Baptist Church, where she spent many hours with friends.

Just days ago, the church’s parking lot was filled with grief after Aby’s car collided with a semi near the intersection of State Route 56 and Capshaw Road.

The area is known for its challenging visibility due to the hill, making oncoming traffic difficult to see.

“We’ve lost a great soul; Heaven’s gained it,” said Beth Esmeyer. “It doesn’t seem fair.”

Aby’s sister, Gaby, was in the passenger seat and was airlifted to the hospital. Gaby is now recovering at home.

Family and friends gathered at Fazoli’s, where Aby worked, to pray and reflect on her life. Aby’s father, Tony Jones, was emotional as he spoke at that vigil.

“I’d tell her to keep her word because it’s the only thing that’s left when you’re gone. I love you, Abygayle,” Tony said.

He was moved to tears when he realized his daughter was taking his advice to heart. It was evident while hearing about how many people she touched by being a caring friend and hard worker.

Over at Gath Baptist Church, Aby’s friends recalled how she filled their lives with laughter and helped them through life’s challenges.

“She was always there to listen, never judging, and no matter what, she’d get you through anything,” said Lillie Holman, a close friend.

Aby was also a talented basketball player. One of her coaches shared how they are dedicating the season to her.

“Her birthday was on National Prayer Day, and I truly believe she got an honorable discharge from Earth because she was that special,” said Savannah Mason, Assistant Basketball Coach.

The community is rallying together to support the family during this challenging time. Gath Baptist Church is accepting donations to help pay for Aby’s funeral expenses and is also providing food for the family.

Anyone who wants to help can reach out to the church for more information by emailing: office@gathbapist.org.

Loved ones are promising to carry on Aby’s legacy of kindness as they prepare for her funeral on Sunday.
