Cal’s Country Kitchen makes a comeback
Marcus Buggs opened new edition of Cal’s Country Kitchen in June.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Cal’s Country Kitchen left a hole in its community after it closed. Now Marcus Buggs, a former NFL player and Nashville native, is on a renewed mission to make his mother’s soul food business a staple in the area.
Buggs walked WSMV4 around the new Cal’s Country Kitchen, located on Dickerson Pike.
“We love to put smiles on people’s faces first and foremost,” Buggs said.
He opened the new location in June.
The opening came after his mom closed the original Cal’s Country Kitchen in Madison in 2021.
“My mom was a big fixture in the Madison community and the food community and she was definitely missed when she left,” Buggs said.
His mom decided to close the restaurant to retire. However, although the business stopped, the support never did.
”That ground soil support that was still there for us people constantly sending us messages asking us if we were coming back or are we going to do pop-ups just kind of built up to this moment of us opening up here in town.”
In a new location, he hopes to expose more people to his mom’s love for food and service.
”It’s a little closer into town, a little closer to downtown and exposing our concept to a bit more of Nashville spreading what we love to do,” Buggs said.
He says he’s bringing new life into an old approach.
”To have something homegrown for the people who are from Nashville and for the visitors it’s just something cool that we like to hang our hat on,” Buggs said.
