Volunteers able to help Helene recovery efforts from miles away
Crisis Clean Up connects volunteers with people recovering from Helene.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Hurricane Helene’s impacts have been widespread and stretched across multiple states.
Organizations like Crisis Cleanup have helped connect volunteers to people impacted by Helene.
“On Sunday, we received 9,300 calls. On Monday, we received 8,000,” said Aaron Titus, the Executive Director of Crisis Cleanup. “That’s the most calls we’ve ever received on a single day by far by a wide margin.”
Titus said it’s clear people need help.
“It’s absolutely heartbreaking,” said Aaron Titus the Executive Director of Crisis Cleanup.
Titus said that if someone needs help cleaning up after a disaster they can call Crisis Cleanup’s toll-free hotline and get placed on a shared map. Afterward, the organization will connect you with volunteers who can help you clean up.
“There are hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of volunteers from relief organizations across the country answering those calls in their homes,” Titus said.
Titus said they’re called virtual call center volunteers. He said Crisis Cleanup creates a unique opportunity that allows people to help without physically being in the impacted areas.
Due to such high demand, Titus they can no longer take individual volunteers.
“We just can’t vet everyone but your organization can register and answer calls remotely from their home,” said Titus.
To call the Crisis Cleanup hotline specifically for Helene recovery, call 1-844-965-1386.
Organizations like local churches or volunteer groups can register on Crisis Cleanup’s website.
