‘She made herself at home’: Woman allegedly eats, showers and wears homeowner’s clothes during break-in
MNPD said they arrested the woman after they found her on a couch asleep.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Metro Nashville Police Department arrested 41-year-old Laquinta Thomas after Thomas told police she ate, showered and even put on some clothes she found in the home, according to a police affidavit.
Thomas also told officers she was in a car accident near the home on Old Hickory Boulevard on Sunday. After she wrecked, according to the report, Thomas walked to the house and broke in.
The homeowner told WSMV4 how this all unfolded.
“My first thoughts were something is wrong,” the homeowner said.
The homeowner left Sunday morning and when she got back home something was off.
“My car parked in my garage the glove compartment was open so that was odd,” the homeowner said.
The homeowner said it wasn’t too suspicious until she went into her kitchen.
“When I came home there was food on the kitchen island that was across from the refrigerator,” the homeowner said. “That should not have been out because neither I or my husband was home.”
When she learned her husband had not made anything in the kitchen, she says that’s when she got concerned.
“I went and got into my car and called the police,” she said.
When police got there, they went through the entire home and found nothing. Police then checked the guest home and found a surprise.
“[Thomas] was just laying on the couch watching tv having snacks,” the homeowner said.
The snacks were still laying neatly next to the couch on Monday afternoon.
“She took lots of chips and crackers,” the homeowner said. “She took the food out of the refrigerator, juice, lemonade, milk, butter, bacon and moved it from the main house refrigerator over to the guest refrigerator.”
“She was everywhere in this house, on this property. So that’s a little unsettling. It feels really violating,” the homeowner said.
The homeowner said Thomas was wearing her daughter’s old unicorn onesie.
“The fact that she was here sleeping and was here while I was gone and here when I came back and that I could’ve accidentally walked in on her had my day played out differently,” the homeowner said.
She’s thankful it didn’t play out differently.
“It was not violent and I’m grateful for that but it could’ve been much worse,” she said.
