NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - You may be paying less for your Thanksgiving dinner this year, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation. They say the price has decreased two years in a row for Thanksgiving dinner.

Janine Brush joins the millions of people anticipated to shop for their Thanksgiving meal. Brush says this year the prices haven’t been terrible.

“I think they’re fairly reasonable,” Brush said. “A few things were a little more, but I think overall it’s not much worse than last year.“

Phyllis Gobbel, another Nashville shopper, said she’s pleased with the prices she’s seen.

“The turkey is 49 cents a pound here and I don’t remember it ever being that low,” Gobbel said. “Certainly not any lower.”

According to the consumer price index, the turkey is what’s driving the cost of the entire meal down. Their data shows turkey prices have decreased by 3.9% from last year.

In addition to lower prices, experts suggest looking for deals before you go to the store. Kroger has a recommended shopping list you can follow. The list adds up to about $48, to feed 10 people. While Walmart has a meal bundle that feeds 8 people for about $55. Aldi has a deal they’re calling “inflation-busting holiday meal“ which is $47 for a meal for 10 people.

Brush said another tip to save money is to have a potluck.

”Everybody brings a dish...you have a better variety, and it isn’t as much work," Brush said. “The work is kind of spread out and you get to be with your friends.“

Gobbel says once you find the deals you can focus on what matters, “Just being with family.”
