NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Friends and family are remembering the life of a Nashville singer-songwriter.

Larysa Jaye died in a crash on Interstate 24 in Montgomery County, early Sunday morning. It happened just weeks after her 40th birthday.

Jaye was a member of the Black Opry and had a residency at the 12/30 Club on Broadway.

As singers, Brei Carter and Larysa Jaye connected immediately.

“Her voice was just so different and unique,” Carter said. “She wasn’t trying to be the next person but just herself.”

Carter said she learned quickly there was so much to love about Jaye.

“We just formed a friendship, a sisterhood...With her, it wasn’t about any competition,” Carter said. “She was literally, truly someone who wanted to see other people succeed and to help in any way that she could.”

Most importantly, Carter said Jaye was a mother of four.

“The thing I loved about her, her strength as a mother and a daughter and also as a friend but just how her foundation was faith.”

Larysa Jaye was scheduled to perform this Saturday at 7 p.m. at Country in Color. The event will be at 2026 Lindell Ave.

Country in Color is a music showcase that aims to provide a platform for non-traditional artists. Eric Byford is the Country in Color producer.

“When she walked into a room when she performed it was a joy to see... She embodied everything we were championing,” Byford said.

They are donating all proceeds from Saturday’s show to a GoFundMe set up to help her family.

“I just hate it for this family to be having to go through this especially this time of year just so sudden and tragic,” Byford said. “It’s just hard to process.”

As they grieve, Carter said she still has a piece of her friend because she lives on through her music.

“Music just heals so many people and just the gift that she had and the love that she shared with the world.”

Jaye will be laid to rest next Thursday at Bethel World Outreach Church in Brentwood.
