Covenant School parent reacts to Wisconsin school shooting: ‘horrific and demonic’
“We’ll be here as a support for anything that they need during this earth-shattering season.”
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A mass shooting at a private Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday, bears similarities to the shooting at The Covenant School last spring, stirring up painful memories for families in Nashville.
On March 27, 2023, a shooter entered The Covenant School, killing six people, including three children. Both incidents happened at private Christian schools, both around the same time of morning, and in both cases, the shooter was a former student who died on the scene.
A mother of two Covenant School students, who both survived the attack, gave a statement to WSMV in light of what happened in Madison:
This mother said she hopes Covenant School families can offer support to and be a resource for those affected in Madison in the coming days.
Covenant students and staff moved back to the Burton Hills campus in mid-2024.
While the temporary site has provided distance from the tragedy at the Covenant School, it has come with its own scares. In February, a bomb threat was emailed to the temporary site at Brentwood Hills Church of Christ.
In June 2024, WSMV got a look inside the renovated campus. Rooms and art pieces throughout the school transformed the building for students to have a new experience in a familiar place.
While the school is under an agreement with Covenant Presbyterian Church for the school to return to the church as its main campus under a three-year, rent-free lease agreement, the school announced it is launching a capital campaign to support a new campus.
