According to James Allen, who lives near the scene, an electrical worker and Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper heard the dog ‘screaming’ and followed the noises to a nearby creek.
Allen said he ran to his home and fashioned a makeshift stretcher using a hammock, rope and plywood.
Allen said they used the stretcher to lift the dog up and out of the creek.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation posted on Facebook that TDOT crews were also on the scene at the time and helped with the rescue.
Allen said the dog couldn’t move its back legs so it was transported to a veterinarian. A microchip scan detected a microchip scan and led to the owner’s information.
TDOT said one of its crew members donated a pallet of dog food to the shelter the dog was originally taken to.
