NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A group of Middle Tennesseans is trying to get the word out that no kid sleeps on the floor in their town.

That’s the motto of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a national non-profit that coordinates volunteers to build and deliver beds to children in need.

“About 2-4% of children sleep on the floor in most areas; most people don’t know that,” said Crystal Ebaugh, fundraising manager for the Maury County/Columbia chapter.

Since October of 2022, Ebaugh said 310 Maury County children ages 3-17 have received a custom-built bed. And applications have continued to come in.

“With each bed that we deliver, they get the bed that we deliver, a brand new mattress, a brand new pillow, a brand new bedding set, and brand new sheets,” she added.

Ebaugh said the children’s reaction is priceless.

“It just melts your heart to see these kids so excited when they get a bed to sleep in.”

Sleep in Heavenly Peace does a bed build day once a month.

The next one in Maury County is Sept. 28, 2024.

The organization is always looking for sponsors and volunteers, and donations stay in each individual community.

On Saturday, Sept. 21, the organization sent two teams to Columbia and one team to Mt. Pleasant to deliver beds. One of the teams delivered beds to three older teens aged 15-17.
