Speed, alcohol believed to be factors in crash that damaged multiple businesses in Lebanon
LPD said the crash scene spanned over 700 feet.
LEBANON, Tenn. (WSMV) - Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in a crash that damaged multiple businesses, according to the Lebanon Police Department.
The crash happened at around 3:25 a.m.
LPD said an officer witnessed a car driving east on West Main Street at a “high rate of speed.” Due to weather conditions and the speed of the vehicle, police did not begin a pursuit, but made other nearby units aware and gave the car’s description.
Officers responding to the area to try to stop the vehicle found that it had crashed just off of the square, LPD said. As officers assessed the scene, they quickly found that no other cars were involved in the crash.
Police found two people inside the car. Both of occupants were taken to a hospital, one in serious condition, police said.
At 6 a.m. police announced that the square was completely shut down.
The LPD Traffic Unit responded to the crash due to its severity and their preliminary investigation has shown that speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.
LPD said the crash scene spanned over 700 feet and damaged fencing shrubbery, a tree and multiple light poles along. Several business that line the square were also minorly damaged.
All roads reopened around 8:30 a.m.
